The first thing you find out when yer dog learns to talk is that dogs don't got nothing much to say.

Todd Hewit is the last boy in Prentisstown, where you can constantly hear everyone's thoughts. There is no privacy, and no secrets, until Todd and his dog Manchee stumble across a patch of silence. The town has been lying to them, and now they have to run away. But how can you run away when everyone can hear your thoughts?


I never let go of this gripping and page turning book. It was humorous, exciting and most of all, unique.
My favourite bit was when Manchee is chasing a squirrel which is taunting and teasing him as it runs away from his grasp. This was because of the funny language and the brilliant idea.

Manchee was definitely my favourite character. He was innocent, cute and hilarious - he definitely brightened up the dim and dark story!

Apart from all the amazing descriptions and realistic language, this book is basically one big race from one town to another and gets very repetative and boring from the middle onward. However, I read to the finish, and the dramatic ending definitely makes up for it. I won't tell you what it is - go on, read it!
